-->Subversion is a centralized version control system, meaning that there's a single server that contains all files and revisions, from which users can check out any version of any file. When files are checked out from a remote Subversion repository, the user gets a snapshot of the repository at that point in time.
To use Subversion for your version control, it must be installed on your machine. To check if Subversion is installed your machine, use the following command in Terminal:
This command returns the version number.
If Subversion isn't already installed, the easiest way to get it is by installing the Xcode Command Line Tools. Use the command below to install Xcode Command Line Tools and Subversion.
Once Subversion is installed on your machine, use the following steps to publish your project in SVN.
Create a free SVN repository online. For this example, Assembla was used. Once created, a URL will be provided, which will be used to connect to the repository:
Open or create a Visual Studio for Mac Project.
Right click on the Project and select Version Control > Publish in Version Control..:
In the Connect to Repository tab, select Subversion from the top drop-down.
Enter the URL from step 1. Once the URL is entered, the other fields are populated by default:
Click OK and then confirm by pressing Publish.
If prompted, enter your credentials for the site on which you create the repository, as illustrated below:
All the version control commands available should now be visible in the version control menu.

Download and install Subversion SCPlugin¶
Download and install the stable SCPlugin installer.
Using the command line first¶
Open your terminal:
/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
Set path preferences using nano:
nano .bash_profile
then type:
alias svn='/usr/local/bin/svn'
and quit nano by pressing ctrl-x. Move to the directory where you want to put Jamoma:
cd ~/Documents
Checking out (downloading Jamoma for the first time)¶
First you have to decide where you want to store Jamoma on your Mac. There seems to be a convention of creating a developer folder and keep it there. Create the developer folder if it don't already exist:
mkdir developer
Next we move to the newly created folder:
ch developer
Now you have to decide which version of Jamoma you want to use and work on. In theory the trunk is supposed to be the stable version, while active is where current development take place, meaning that at times it will be less stable. In practice we recommend that you go for active, it's seems to receive far more love and care from developers than the trunk. If you want trunk you run the following command:
svn checkout https://jamoma.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/jamoma/trunk/Jamoma Jamoma

If you instead want to use and work on the active branch:
svn checkout https://jamoma.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/jamoma/branches/active Jamoma
This will not only give you the Jamoma folder available to general users, but also additional code and resources required for development.
Updating¶
Later on you can update to the most recent revision of the branch that you are working on:
svn update
For further work change directory to your checked out location first, no more need for any special options or switches.
Additional useful svn commands:¶
Add a file or folder:
svn add path/to/a/file/or/folder
NOTE: You have to be registered as a Jamoma developer in order to be able to contribute changes to the repository. If you want to join in as a developer, please contact us via the jamoma-devel mailing list.
Status:
svn status
Change directory (cd) to your checked out location, then run this command - it will list all of the changed files you have so you know what you have changed, if it is safe to commit them or update, etc. - extremely useful. We didn't have this in CVS..
Commit:
svn commit -m 'some message about what you did'Khmer unicode 3.0.1 download.
You will need to run this to actually make your changes upload to the server - such as adding, removing, and modifying files.
Other console commands¶
Remove a file or folder:
svn remove path/to/a/file/or/folder
We had a remove in CVS, but it was a pain to use, and it didn't work on folders.
Rename:
svn rename path/to/oldfilename path/to/newfilename
Use this to change the name of a file or folder, SVN will keep all of the file(or folder)'s history with it!
More advanced commands¶
There are some more advanced things you can do which are useful. One of these is that you can Subversion to always ignore certain files. That way it won't list them when you run 'svn status' and it won't try to add them or otherwise bug you. An example of files that you might want to ignore are the PDB files from Windows externals - these contain debugging symbols that are specific to the machine that the external was built on, and thus are useless to anyone.
